Step-by-step instructions for become informed about the K-Dot vs The 6ix God rap beef.
Hey ladies, gents and rap-beef non-aficionados! If you are out of the rap beef loop and want to figure out just what is going on with the biggest rap beef in history, then you have pulled up the right spot. I have curated a playlist on my YouTube channel that includes the associated diss tracks, lyrics, reactions and analysis for each track. This rap beef, according to the 6ix God, “has been brewin’ in a pot” for a hot minute and not-surprisingly, former rapper and music media-head Joe Budden, aka “Joestradamas” called this match-up years ago. Each playlist has the best available diss track from the artist’s original channel followed by relevant review and analysis videos based on content creators that did a great job of being informative, funny and analytical about the music, intellectual lyricism and of course the best bars and disses in the rap beef. I hope this playlist grows your understanding of this iconic moment in pop culture and furthers your appreciation of the talented artists, expressing their stories through the medium of the rap in the hip-hop community. I have also included an awesome animation channel created by JK D Animator, who does a phenomenal job of allowing fans to experience the epic K-Dot, J. Cole and Drake, epic rap battle through his DragonFlowZ animation series.
I suggest starting with Drake’s ‘First Person’s Shooter’ featuring J. Cole, this track gained the attention of the silent lyrical giant and ‘certified boogey man’ known as Kendrick Lamar. Follow up with the Future/Metro Boomin ‘Like That’ diss track, which represents the return-shot heard around the world. This diss track featuring Kendrick Lamar, caused the hip-hop community to stop and pay attention to the impending battle. Next, listen J. Cole’s 7-minute Drill. Cole made a brief appearance but quickly read the tea leaves, chose non-violence and gracefully bowed out of the beef. Up next should be Drake’s ‘Push Ups’ where you will ‘hear witness’ to the 6ix God metaphorically pulling up to Kendrick Lamar’s house attempting to provoke him into coming outside to play. Your next listening experience should be Drake’s Taylor Made Freestyle where he drags Taylor Swift’s name into the fray and uses AI-posthumous Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg to continue to throw rocks at K-Dot’s window as a means of goading him into engaging. Note that by the time you read this it might be too late for the Taylor Made Freestyle diss track as the Tupac Shakur estate issued a takedown order because the of the unauthorized use of his voice. Afterwards, listen to ‘euphoria’ where Kendrick Lamar, aka, the boogey man, surfaces on a random Tuesday in broad light, entered the arena and cautioned the 6ix that “taking it there” was “something ‘he’ “don’t want to do…”. K-Dot then commenced to deliver a lyrical masterclass filled with the previously requested “quintuple entendre” in this rebuttal track. Next up, listen to ‘6:16’ where Kendrick continues to instruct the culture and the 6ix God while allowing us to join him in “the circadian rhythms of a shooting star.” Drake then attempts to rebuts these two diss tracks by dropping Family Matters, which speaks for itself as he ignores K-Dot’s warning and persists forward in his trek across the Rubicon continuing to include Kendrick’s family in his diss tracks, even though he was warned not to do so. Drake similarly suffered negative repercussions in a past in the Drake vs Pusher T rap battle, for engaging in similar behavior. Then follow up with ‘Meet the Grahams,’ which dropped minutes after ‘Family Matters,’ stepping on Drake’s release and turning everyone’s attention to Kendrick talking to and, mentoring members of the Graham family while simultaneously revealing information that…, well you will just have to listen for yourself. Your penultimate listening experience should be ‘Not Like Us,’ where Kendrick produces a club banger that incited the masses to jump up and dance to this call-and-response diss track that will not just be banging all summer, but probably to infinity and beyond. Your closing video should be ‘The Heart Part 6,’ where you will hear a seemingly exhausted 6ix God appear to be waving the white flag of surrender as the beef comes to an end with K-Dot securing the rap beef and cultural win; which he will undoubtedly add to his already overcrowded repertoire of Pulitzer Prizes, Grammys and other accolades. Kendrick Lamar came outside to slay, not to play. All hail The Boogey Man, K-Dot and Kendrick Lamar. May we never be foolish enough to antagonize him, may we have the attentive mind to be schooled by him and may we recognize him as the reigning king of rap, respectively, all in that order.
Below are the playlists, and additional resources for your review should you choose to up your knowledge about the origin story of this iconic beef to what the culture is currently feeling as it ends and new cultural dialogue begins in the aftermath of this epic battle.
